Library Policies

Read the American Library Association's Freedom to Read statement to see where all libraries stand on the issue of censorship and the protected right to access information.

Library Registration
Residents: No fees for all residents of the town of Skowhegan and persons residing outside of the geographical area, but owning property in Skowhegan, (property tax receipt is required).
No fee for all students, birth through grade 12, educated in the Greater Skowhegan area (Norridgewock, Skowhegan, Mercer, Canaan, Cornville, and Smithfield).
Non-Residents: An annual fee of 25.00 will be charged for all non-residents "yearly".
Proof of Identification: At least 2 of the following sources are required:
1. Valid photo I.D.
2. Utility receipt
3. Property Tax Bill
Library personnel will verify proof of residency. Borrowing of materials will not be permitted until verification is completed.
